Oasis Guitarist Paul Arthurs to Miss Tour Leg for Medical Care
The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed he will miss a segment of his band’s reunion tour as he begins treatment for prostate cancer.
Concerts He Will Miss
Arthurs, 60, a founding member of the band, confirmed he will be unable to play at the scheduled shows in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.
The Seoul concert is set for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Health Update
In a social media post, he disclosed that he was found to have prostate cancer at the start of the year and is reacting positively to therapy.
“Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to participate in this incredible tour.
“Now, I am needing to take a scheduled pause for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be missing these shows but I’m feeling good and will be back prepared in time for the South American leg.”
Earlier Cancer Diagnosis
This marks his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been found to have tonsil cancer.
At that time, he stated: “Just to inform everyone I’m going to be pausing from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s treatable and I will be beginning a course of treatment soon.”
Musical Journey
Arthurs was a member in the band The Rain with the frontman in the start of the 90s before they brought in the singer’s brother, Noel, who later insisted they adopt a new name.
He featured on three records with the group, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before departing in 1999 during the recording of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his individual projects, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group Parlour Flames and served as a radio DJ after his period in the band.
